- (noun)
So a bidwi means farmer. Random, I know. Many years ago while Todd and I were serving as missionaries together in Malta, we took a Maltese class for two hours every morning. During this time we got to know each other pretty well. Even though we started our missions together on the same day, and served about 15 months together, we didn't really get along. We had different ways of doing things, and we weren't very good friends. Up until we spent many, many hours in a little room in the building we had church in every Sunday, learning Maltese.
One day our wonderful maltese teacher Diane asked us to make up some stories in Maltese. For my story I wrote about a bidwi (farmer) named Elder Bishop. Over the course of several Maltese classes, this Bidwi Bishop, had many adventures. So slowly over time, it became kind of my pet name for Todd, known to me then as Elder Bishop, and it stuck. Now I never said that he acted like he really liked this pet name at the time, but over time as I went home, he went home and we fell in love and got married, he has admitted that he did deep down secretly love it. It was kinda our first little "thing". So the pet name from the time that we both dearly love and also kinda started as we were falling in love, has stuck.
