That is what we have been hearing all. day. long. from the boys. "What time is it in Texas?" They are trying so hard to keep their bodies on Texas time. Ay! We keep telling them they must switch over to London time, and to not worry about what bloody time it is in Texas!!! Tate is struggling with jet lag big time. When he gets tired I look at the clock and do the math and sure enough, he is still completely on his Texas schedule. It's going to take a few days.
We had grand plans to go to church today and we were excited to go to our new ward, but a case of the ol' diarrhea for Tate, jet lag for the rest of us, and physical exhaustion and backache for Todd after schlepping boxes and luggage around several times in one day, got the best of our plans.
I spent most of the day unpacking and organizing and setting up our flat. After the last box was unpacked tonight I looked around and it really has began to feel homey and comfortable already. We are making a trip to Ikea tomorrow to get some much needed things to help organize and decorate and then I will take some pictures and post them...
We have found out though that one of the bathtubs doesn't work because the stopper won't unstop, so the tub fills up but doesn't drain. It's so ideal! Along with a toilet that doesn't stop running water unless you jiggle the flusher a few times. So, looks like our "moving consultant" (said George Banks from Father of the Bride style) is getting an email from us, and I hope it gets fixed soon since we rented a 2 bath flat, not a one!
A very sweet girl that I was put in touch with several months ago who lives here in St. John's Wood and who is apart of our new ward has been helping me with various questions I have had and with our relocating here, and she offered to bring us dinner tonight. It was such a wonderful thing to sit down to a nice homemade meal after having been eating snacky and quick frozen foods the last few days. I was thinking about this wonderful tradition we have in the church of bringing food into people when they move, or have a baby, or there if there is a death in the family, or whatever their need at the time may be. I really love it. I love this tradition that gets passed from good mormon women to the next generation. I'm grateful to have learned how to nurture and take care in this way from my mom, by watching her example. I am grateful tonight for Jen and for the yummy dinner she made for my family and I am sure she learned this from watching her mother and other great women. It is such a wonderful tradition and it really is such a blessing. I also love that no matter where we move in the world we have instant friends through the church. It is so comforting. Oh, and I am also grateful she just so happened to include a coke zero. It was much needed and very much appreciated.
Tonight we had a little devotional since we didn't go to church today. I gave a lesson to the boys on the sacrament and read from one of my favorite talks by Elder Holland, "This do in remembrance of me". I have loved this talk for many years, and it really changed the way of how I think of the sacrament. Tate danced as we sang the opening and closing songs. I don't ever want to forget the way he dances to every single song he hears. We all played games after and hung out as a family, it was a good calm day. Much needed after yesterday.
Tomorrow will be busy, and I am very excited to show the boys where they will be going to school, the area around our home and also hopefully we can go see Big Ben, since that is the #1 thing on the boys to see list.

I'm so glad you had a good meal and are getting settled in! Pinch your boys for me ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that you take the time to note the things that you feel thankful for - (ie. the help with the luggage at the airport, the meals brought in, etc.) It's those tender mercies that really get us through the obstacles that are thrown at us, and we don't always remember them unless we write them down! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the talk you mentioned by Elder Holland. It's kinda ironic that you mentioned that because I gave my RS lesson yesterday on the sacrament and used a great deal of that talk in my lesson. Hope you can get the problems with the tub and toilet fixed. Sounds like you're starting to get settled! Hope all is going well!
