Today I got the boys off to school and Todd went into work for a few hours. After Tate and I went to the Tesco to grab a few snacks for our road trip, we came home and I cleaned the flat and packed up everyone for our long weekend away in Bath.
Todd picked up our rental car for the weekend on the way home from work and when he got to our flat we packed up the car and went to pick up the boys from school. Just as we were leaving a huge thunderstorm started. So it made it very eventful picking up the boys in the pouring rain! The boys were very excited to get out of school a little early, and to be going on a road trip!
Todd wasn't as excited to be driving on the left hand side of the road! Yikes! What more is that most cars here in the UK are standard, so he had to learn to shift with his left hand. It was hilarious at first, it was like being with someone who was learning to drive a standard for the first time. Lots of stalls and jerking. Also, lots of panicking and double checking that we were in the right lane, or I guess I should say the left lane, the left lane but at the right time! Geez, confusing!
Once we were out of the city and on the main "freeway" the M4, it was pretty much smooth sailing. We stopped off after about an hour at a little rest stop area and ate dinner and used the restrooms. Speaking of restrooms, both of my boys are now calling bathrooms, toilets, which they have picked up from school. It is so weird for me to hear "Mom, can I go to the toilet?" Ummmm...it's crazy!
Tate freaked out most of the ride. This kiddo isn't used to being strapped down in a car seat anymore, and hated most of our ride. It made for a really pleasant trip! He better get over it because we will be in the car a lot over the next few days.
The ride was beautiful and the English countryside is gorgeous. We got to Bath around 6:30pm and headed to our Bed and Breakfast for the weekend, a little place called the Henrietta House. We found it online since most of the places to stay in Bath are bed and breakfasts. I was a little worried about staying at a B&B with kids, but I when I called they assured me they have families stay all the time. They even have family suites, which we booked.
We checked in and unloaded all our stuff and went down to the Garden suite. On the way down to our suite we saw this picture hanging by the elevators (which my boys now call lifts, by the way)....
Uh, if that doesn't give you the heebie jeebies, I don't know what will! Ayy! Nothing says "welcome to our B&B, get a good nights sleep!" like seeing this freaky-deaky lady on the way down to your room for the night! I think this lady will be in my nightmares for a while!
Our little family suite is nice and has plenty of room for the weekend. It reminds me of a little British countryside cottage, like out of Sense and Sensibility, "A little cottage is always very snug".
Main bedroom...
Sitting room, with a little private garden outside.
Entryway, and a cute little tot named Taters...
Thatcher and Tagg's room for our time here.
We settled in and the boys immediately turned on the TV, watched a few shows and then we swiftly spanked them all and sent them to bed! Okay we didn't spank them, but we did put them all to bed.
Now Todd is catching up on some work from the day and I am heading to bed, it's going to be a great day tomorrow exploring Bath!
