Today Todd surprised me with tickets for Once, a musical playing on the West End (which is like the London version of Broadway). I was really wanting to see Once, I've heard it is pretty good from several friends, so I was super excited.
We headed out and , it was a hot sticky night and riding the tube with hot sticky people isn't the most of glamorous or nice smelling of experiences...I'll let you use your imagination on that one. But once we got out of the underground and walked into Leicester Square we were all good. We hadn't been down to Leicester Square yet, and I had heard it is like the hip-hop-happening place to go! This is where you go to buy tickets or pick up tickets if you order them online. Since it is summer tourist season is in full force, and it was PACKED. But we went and stood in line and waited to pick up our tickets.
The ticket booth...
I snapped a these pics while waiting in line for our tickets, one of those moments when I look around and I am like, "Dang, we are smack dab in the middle of one of the coolest cities in the entire world!"
We headed to the theater and quickly found our seats. The stage was really cool in that the audience could go down on the stage and look around before the show started and order some pre-show drinks from the bar, which was part of the set. Since we don't drink we didn't partake in this little activity, but it was fun to watch everyone on stage! About 10 minutes before the show started some of the cast came out and started playing music on their violins and piano. The people who were on the stage already, stood around and watched, except this one lady. She started to dance, and I mean DANCE...like kind of trying to riverdance since the play is based in Dublin and they were playing Irish music. It was...hilarious. She just kept going and going and going getting bigger and bigger with her dancing. At the end, when the cast stopped playing and everyone was clapping, she took a few very large bows facing the audience. It made my night. I love a little crazy now and then.
The play was really good, with great music and a sweet but sad love story. We had a great time.
Date night blurry picture! But had to document our first West End play!
I sure love this handsome guy and how much he knows I love this kind of stuff!
After the play we went over to a little hamburger place called Honest Burger. Todd's co-worker told him it was the best burger he has ever tried in the WORLD. I was absolutely and totally skeptical! I mean, the best burger in the world in London? Please. But it was. I ate my words. And my burger. And enjoyed every bite. Of both.
Such a great date night!
