Today we all slept in, even Tate, which was heaven. We planned for sleeping in, knowing that we would have gotten in so late last night. It was so nice to wake up in a dark, cool room. The sun comes up in the UK at an insanely early time, so back home in London I am up at the crack of dawn. And when I say crack of dawn, I mean 4:00am. Dead serious. So going to bed in a nice, cool room with it staying dark until 8:30am was pure bliss!
We headed out to see Dublin after a late breakfast. Dublin is a great town. I really, really like it. It has such a great vibe, and I am a sucker for all the street performers and artists. But even looking past all of that, it is just a cool city. Not to mention I could listen to the Irish accent all the live long day!
Stopping to enjoy this Irish singer.
Looking down a side street, these are my fave.
I really love little shops like this perched on the side of some random street.
The best way to get to know a city we have found, is to just wander around. You really get the feel of the city quick, and you get your bearings pretty fast. After we wandered around for a good deal of time, we decided to stop for lunch.
We found a hamburger place that looked good, and decided to give it a go...
It was a warm day and in this picture Tagg looks totally spent!
We each ordered a different lemonade and they were delicious!
Tate trying the lemonade...
Hmmmm...
Ayyyyyy! Sour!
Thatcher was in a very grumpy mood during the beginning of lunch, so I told him I would snap a picture to document it. He soon cheered up when the food arrived.
Hamburgers as big as our heads!
YUM!
After lunch we headed over to see St. Patricks Cathedral. I mean how can we go to Ireland and not see something pertaining to St. Patrick?
Todd, Thatcher, and Tagg getting ready to cross the road. Loved those big red buildings.
All the boys in front of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Here comes Tagg!
Scene from the Cathedral grounds.
Pretty grounds...
It was a nice day so there were tons of people just hanging out enjoying the weather.
No snakes, nor potatoes to be found...
There was this cute little playground on the grounds, and the boys had a good time playing and getting some energy burned off.
Loved these photos of Tate...this kid is pure happiness I am telling you.
Tagg was in a very loving-to-do-cartwheels type of mood today. I loved this picture! Just a kid doing cartwheels in front of a European cathedral. No biggie.
We just took our time and hung around the church for a while, people watching and letting the kids play.
Yep, more cartwheels.
My four T's with St. Patty...
Aren't these old stained glass windows awesome? They are one of my favorite parts of visiting and viewing old cathedrals and churches.
The Nave...
Aren't the floors cool? I love all the patterned floors in these European churches.
I always love finding little sayings and sentimental things inside these old churches. This is kinda rando that this saying is right by some emergency kit, but I really loved it...
"Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me"
Also this little plaque, isn't it sweet?
I always like to imagine what their lives must have been like.
Tagg wanted me to take this picture of him posing, pointing to this plaque on the floor.
He is such a crazy kid!
We left the Cathedral and started our walk to meet up with a Viking Tour of Dublin.
The first "mexican" place I have seen over here..hmmm, looks absolutely authentic! Ha!
On our walk we found our square!
Cute little house we saw on our walk through a park.
We met up with our Viking Tour of Dublin, and got onto the WWII vehicles that can go on the roads and water. The boys got excited when they saw the Viking hats they had for everyone to wear...
We were off after our tour guides introduction!
I love the ivy on this brick building.
Irish pub.
The oldest theater in Dublin.
So I have heard of Molly Malone before today, but never really knew the legend. The legend and song are about a woman named Molly who was a fishmonger by day, but a prostitute by night. The tour guide said that she was said to stand on this corner for her nighttime business, and now there is this store named after her profession...ha ha ha!
Dublin has some really cool bridges...
For part of the tour, the part on the water, Tate and I had to get off the tour because Tate was too young. Here we are waving good-bye to Todd and the big boys...
Tate and I had a fun time walking around and watching this cute little swan family!
The tour over all was awesome and a good time was had by all. We headed back to our hotel after the tour and I saw a Monsoon...
I saw these shops a lot on my mission when my last name was still Monson, and I always loved them. Now being in the UK and here in Ireland, they are everywhere, and seeing one always makes me smile. And think of my brother David who when he played football in High School the kids would yell..."Monsooooooon".
It was a wonderful day sightseeing Dublin and getting a great taste for Ireland. Tomorrow we are off to Cork!
