Day One-Hundred and Fifty-Nine: Barcelona or Bust Baby!

Thursday, August 21, 2014

We've been SUPER excited for this trip for a long time now. We are off to Barcelona for a few days of exploring and sightseeing, and then leaving from Barcelona on a Disney Cruise around the Mediterranean!! What?? Yep, I am so excited!! We absolutely LOVED going on the Disney Cruise out of Galveston last year, and so we decided to book another one while we were here in Europe and knew it would be a great way to show the boys some amazing spots in the Mediterranean. And also let's face it. I am a little bit of a Disney nut, and have passed that on now to my boys. Cannot wait!!

It's always fun packing up the entire family into small suitcases, cramming all those suitcases and family into a too small of a car, and then trekking all the way out to an airport and then muscling our way through a crazy European airport where nobody knows the word "convenience". What's so crazy you ask about the airports? Oh just that you have to carry your stroller down several flights of stairs to get to your gate...

Yep, dead serious. This happens all the time. We will be following the signs to our gate and then we turn a corner and there are these stairs. Never mind that you have a buggy with a baby and several roller suitcases. It also never ceases to make me shake my head and laugh. But yeah, it causes a tad bit of stress and by the time we are all actually on the plane I think Todd and I are ready to collapse.

Classy and mom of the year, that's me!

These big boys were pretty dang excited, and I'll admit, so was I!

I've always wanted to go to Spain, and feel super lucky that we get to be here now! Let me tell you it is amazing. As soon as we landed I felt the thickness of the air, a definite change from London. One of the first things I noticed was the "th" in the Spanish I was hearing. It's not pronounced gra-see-us (gracias) here, it's gra-the-us. It was so strange to Todd and my ears! We got out of the airport with all our bags and into a taxi to the hotel.

We got checked into our hotel and resisted the urge to nap the day away, we were tired! But we got our booties out the door to walk around and explore the city.

Barcelona is beautiful, filled with beautiful warm people, amazing architecture and really amazing vegetation. It is so unique and just has a really cool vibe. Like tropical meets European meets eclectic meets refined. I don't know, it's just awesome. I loved snapping pictures at all the gorgeous buildings.

Could you die from all the details? I could!

We stopped into a cafe/restaurant for dinner and couldn't wait to try some Tapas from Barcelona. We tried several and they were delicious. After dinner we wandered around some more until we found a market to grab a few things we needed. This market was INSANE. I have never seen such a busy supermarket in my life, and I have been to Black Friday at Walmart!

After the market we stopped over for some ice cream because frankly that's what you do in European countries we've discovered. You eat ice cream and you marvel at the architecture. Done and done!

We walked around some more just gawking at all the cool buildings, amazing balconies (I am slightly obsessed with the balconies here in Europe), and wonderful sights, vibrant colors and sounds.

A lot of the buildings have these patterns on them, it is SO beautiful and intricate.

I really cannot emphasize enough how much I fell in love with this city. It is so amazing.

After we felt that we fully explored enough for today, we came back to the hotel and walked into a very warm room. Too warm. We called the front desk to try to get some help to get the room cool, and after about an hour or two and several technicians busting in and out of our room we finally had some relief. Mama ain't happy in the heat. I am so grateful they fixed it!

The boys didn't mind the heat as long as they could lay on our bed and watch TV in Spanish. What? Weirdos. Even TV in another language will suffice their longing for endless time in front of the boob tube!

Now we are exhausted and ready for bed! We have a full day of sightseeing tomorrow planned and can't wait to see more of Barcelona! (pronounced Bar-the-lona, still weird!)
