Day One-Hundred and Forty-Nine: Thatcher's Violin

Monday, August 11, 2014

Today we went and got Thatcher a violin! He is going to start taking lessons from my friend Sylvia who plays the violin and also teaches all her kids to play. Thatcher had been expressing interest in learning the violin for a while, and when we moved here and I became friends with Sylvia the stars aligned.

He has promised to practice, and I have promised not to become a crazy women getting him to practice. But he is very excited! And I hope that excitement lasts. Both Todd and I played the violin, emphasise on the word "played" because neither of us do now. I can't speak for Todd but I never gave it 100% and just got by with barely practicing. When I was about 13 I gave it up, which was stupid. So I hope Thatcher sticks with it now that he has expressed real desire to learn. I think he will, he is different then me, more focused and driven. He gets that from his dad.

We went to Stringers to rent his violin, which is a cute little shop pretty close to where we live. I thought this will be such a sweet little memory for Thatcher, getting his first violin in London...
