We didn't have anything to do this morning except sleep in, pack, eat, and boy did we take our time doing it!
I woke up to this view...dang, I love this city so much!!!
We downstairs to eat breakfast and just sat there for a long time lazing about and talking. It was great. We then got ready, packed up all our stuff and checked out of our favorite hotel of all time. Seriously, it was so wonderful.
We decided to just walk around and not rush, and just enjoy our last few hours in Florence.
We walked along the Arno again to the Ponte Vecchio. I could never get sick of this walk. It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny, with big puffy clouds. Ideal really. Todd is now convinced he wants to move here. Ha!
We ended up at the Piazza that we both just loved. There is a great gelato shop here and we sat under this statue several times during our time here, just chatting and enjoying being here together. I took a picture to remember it.
We then walked along the back winding streets and found a great little place for lunch. It was one of the best meals we had in Italy, and so we were happy to have it on the last day. A little guy came over during lunch and played his accordion, it was so sweet and I might have gotten misty again.
After lunch we found this cute shop in a back little street that sold hand painted ceramics. The guy who owned the shop was there painting, and we found a big platter that we both liked that had the city scene of Florence painted on it. We bought it and it is such a great souvenir of our time together here!
We decided to get one last gelato so we walked over to a place that Chiara recommended yesterday. On our way we saw these street artists coloring the street.
This place was called Grom, and it was delicious.
Very authentic gelato. A good rule of thumb that I learned along time ago to tell good, authentic gelato from the not so great stuff is to look at the color green in the gelato in the mint and also the pistachio. If the green is bright green, it is not the good stuff, if it is dull and not very pretty, that's your winner...
My last Italian gelato, saaaaad. Notice the green! Yup, looks like a baby poop green to me! Not pretty at all! But oh so good!
Before we knew it, it was time to go back to the hotel and collect our luggage and head off to the airport. We got to the airport and caught our plane and just like that our little trip away together was coming to an end.
Isn't it amazing how getting away just the two of you makes you feel young again? You act like two silly kids young and dumb and so in love. It was so wonderful, and we really had the very best time of all times. I can't say it enough.
Now we are home safe in our little London flat, and it is good to be home. I was tempted to wake the boys up just to hug them, but I will wait for tomorrow. I am so thankful to my Dad for braving the week alone here with my three rambunctious boys. So thankful for him and I know the boys will always remember their fun week alone with Grandpa.
The best news is that when we were leaving Florence today I was only a just little sad, because literally Italy is like my secret lover, but we will be back this August and October when we take the boys to show them around. So today's goodbye wasn't a goodbye, just a see ya later!
